“Mentoring in the 21st Century”: Shaping the Future of Leadership in the Philippine Marine Corps

The Philippine Marine Corps continues its commitment to developing leaders of character and excellence through the PMC Leadership Mentoring Program, highlighted today in a Leadership Forum themed “Mentoring in the 21st Century". Held at the Marine Corps Force Development Center (MCFDC) today, 28 March 2025, the event successfully gathered 210 Marines—63 in-person participants and 147 joining via Zoom—comprising Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and officers from Headquarters Philippine Marine Corps (HPMC) offices and Marine units across the country.

Setting the tone for the event, Command Sergeant Major, SMS Rommel Carbon, delivered a powerful welcome address, emphasizing the vital role of mentoring in shaping the next generation of Marine leaders. He highlighted the responsibility of seasoned Marines to pass on their wisdom, experience, and values to those who will one day take the helm of leadership in the Corps.

The session featured Major Cherryl Tindog PN(M)(GSC), Director of the Marine Corps Center for Leadership and Excellence, as the resource speaker, who presented the LEAD Framework—a structured and forward-thinking approach to mentorship that fosters growth, accountability, and leadership excellence. With the theme “Inspiring Great Leaders, One Marine at a Time,” she underscored the importance of adapting to the evolving demands of leadership while staying true to the core values of the Marine Corps.

In his closing remarks, Colonel Armando Custodio, Superintendent of MCFDC, gave a moving reflection on the significance of mentorship in leadership development. He encouraged every Marine in attendance to not only lead with purpose but to become mentors who inspire and shape future generations of warriors.

Recognizing the significance of the initiative, PMC Commandant, Major General Arturo Rojas, lauded the efforts of the organizing team, affirming the fundamental need to continuously strengthen leadership at all levels. He reiterated that Marines are the backbone of the Corps, and through effective mentorship, the PMC will continue to evolve as THE MOST READY FORCE—always prepared, always committed, always leading from the front.
